This KC, I wanted to try Ancient Warriors without staples or techs to face the format, and surprisingly, it went quite well.
Running techs like Gandarla, Book of Eclipse, Super poly or drops helps against certain matchups, but it greatly affects consistency, and you usually won't draw them when you need them. So it's best to keep your deck as low as possible to ensure you draw what you need to build your base combo.
Aside from that, the deck needs some ability that allows you to replace cards, because the possibility of drawing all the Zhuge Kongs first hand almost completely destroys the game before it even starts. So I tried Elemental Order: Mystical Space Typhoon. It lets you replace cards you need in your deck to search for them later, and it also gives you a typhoon to combat this deck's main weakness: blackrow.
Zhang Yuan and Chang Ban's Defense help buy turns and are searchable tools. Zhang Yuan has actually given me duels with his destroy effect, allowing me to leave the field empty for OTKs.
I'll continue using this deck until I have all the cards with the Sepia Chronicle effect (I'm already halfway there)...and possibly beyond. I hope they give him an ability someday; dreaming is free 😏
